SALFIT August 01. 2024 (Saba) - On Thursday, the authorities of the Zionist enemy handed over to the residents of the town of Derastya, northwest of Salfit, a notice to confiscate large areas of the town's land in favor of expanding its settlements built on citizens' land.
The Palestinian Ma'an news agency quoted the mayor of Derastya, Firas Diab, as saying that the occupation authorities handed them a notice to change the status of land use for housing purposes to confiscate 35 dunums of citizens' land in the areas of "Karsun, Al-Balaa and Wad Al-Hamam" in the Wadi Qana area, west of the town, in order to expand the settlement of "Karni Shomron" built on citizens' lands.
Diab added that the occupation targets the Palestinian presence to force citizens to leave their lands and replace settlers in their place in the Wadi Qana area, which is estimated at an area of more than 10,000 dunums, as the Israeli occupation has declared it a natural protected area since 1983, and prevents the Palestinian owners of the land from working in return for building and expanding its settlements on it, which are estimated at eight settlements: Emmanuel from the east, Qarni Shomron and Ma'ale Shomron from the north, Jenat Shomron and the settlement outpost Al-Matan from the west, and Yakir and Novim from South.
It is noteworthy that the occupation authority has recently escalated its policy aimed at seizing large areas of citizens' land, in the villages and towns of the governorate.
