NEWYORK August 24. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations said that successive Israeli evacuation orders in Gaza, including 12 orders issued this August, have displaced 90% of the Strip's 2.1 million residents since the war began.
The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territories, Muhannad Hadi, warned that the evacuation orders endanger civilians rather than protect them, noting that the Israeli forces "are forcing families to flee again, often under fire and with the few belongings they can carry with them, to an ever-shrinking, crowded and unsafe area."
According to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, the recent evacuation orders mean that the UN World Food Program has lost access to its warehouse in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.
"This was the third and final operational warehouse in the central Gaza area," he added, noting that "five community kitchens run by WFP have been evacuated, as the agency looks for new locations for them."
