The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, took over the presidency of the G20 for the year 2025 from his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva, during the closing session on Tuesday of the G20 summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, over two days.
The summit had started last Monday, and included holding two working sessions on "Social Inclusion and Combating Poverty and Hunger", and "Reforming Global Governance Institutions", on the first day of the summit, and a third working session yesterday on "Energy Transformation within the Framework of Sustainable Development".
South Africa will chair the G20 for 2025 and then the United States for 2026, and the G20 summit is held once a year.
