The 8th Companies' Seven-A-Side Football Championship officially kicked off on Wednesday at the Sana'a Recreation Club Stadium.
Organized by the Sports Federation of Companies and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Yemen Mobile Company, the tournament features 20 teams representing various companies, ministries, and organizations.
The competition is divided into four groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds. The opening ceremony included a vibrant parade of the participating teams, including the Palestinian community team and the Capital Sana'a Pioneers Football Championship teams.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Ali Hadban officially declared the start of the tournament, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to supporting the Sports Federation of Companies and promoting sports culture.
He highlighted the importance of such events for the physical and moral well-being of employees and praised the broad participation in the tournament.
The opening match saw a surprise result as the General Authority for Insurance defeated defending champions, Yemen Mobile, 3-2. In another match, Yemen Kuwait Bank triumphed over the Electricity Corporation team with a 4-1 victory. The Bahrain Shamil Bank also secured a win in Group 2, defeating TeleYemen 4-2.
The tournament will continue tomorrow with three matches, including games between CAC Bank and the Food Association, and two matches in Group 3. The competition will run until next Friday, with more exciting matchups scheduled.
