A press conference was held in Sana'a today on the reality of persons with disabilities, after ten years of aggression, and the vision of the government of change and construction towards them, organized by the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the National Federation of Yemeni Disabled Associations.
The press conference is organized under the slogan "Together towards promoting the rights and empowerment of persons with disabilities", on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
At the conference, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Samir Bajaala stressed that one of the priorities of the government of change and construction is to care for people with special needs in all their categories.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Social Affairs, with all its cadres, will work to translate the directives of the Leader of the Revolution, Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, to pay attention to people with special needs in all fields, including education, health, and economic empowerment, and to integrate them into the labor market.
Minister Bajaala explained that the celebration of the national, Arab and International Day of Persons with Disabilities coincides with the 57th anniversary of independence on November 30, to raise community awareness of the issues of persons with disabilities and help society understand the challenges faced by this segment, promote their rights and encourage respect for their dignity and fundamental rights, and the opportunity to integrate them into societies.
He thanked the Shura Council for its recent study, discussion, and analysis of the phenomenon of disability in Yemen, and for coming up with a package of recommendations for the decision-maker, which when referred to the government will be translated into executive programs for the benefit of people with disabilities.
He also stressed the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Social Affairs to develop policies and programs that support persons with disabilities, improve access to services and opportunities for them, contribute to their rehabilitation, education, and training, and open wider horizons that increase their opportunities to work at the government and private levels.
The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor considered the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities an opportunity to unify efforts and strengthen solidarity and solidarity with this group, which contributes to building a more just society.
