The Faculty of Human Medicine at the University of Dhamar and the Yemeni Society of Otolaryngologists organized on Monday an introductory seminar on the occasion of the launch of the "Electronic Cochlear Implant Program for Hearing Losses", which is being held for the first time in Yemen, under the slogan "Partners Together in Reducing the Suffering of Hearing Losses".
In the seminar, in the presence of the advisor to the Supreme Political Council, Ambassador Abdullah Hajar, Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti stressed the support of the leadership of the local authority in the province for such qualitative projects that would contribute to the advancement and development of the health sector, as well as provide the needs of patients in various medical , therapeutic specialties, reduce their suffering and their need to travel abroad.
He pointed to the directives of the Revolution Leader , Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, to pay attention to education, allow local expertise and encourage it to produce , innovate, utilize energies and efforts in building , developing all service and vital sectors to reach self-sufficiency.
The governor of Dhamar called for coordination to hold a meeting of the local authority, the health sector, businessmen, senior doctors at the university and the private sector to organize cooperation between the government and the private sector, pointing out the importance of attracting Yemeni specialists and establishing a center for the exchange of experiences.
Al-Bukhaiti praised the efforts of all those who worked on the development of cochlear implants, considering this project a real breakthrough in building the health sector.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Environment, Dr. Najeeb Al-Qabati, pointed out the importance of electronic cochlear implants in giving hearing impaired people the ability to communicate with those around them.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, President of Dhamar University, discussed the blessing of hearing, its issues and its reflection on the behavior of the hearing-impaired, and the importance of the electronic cochlea in helping them to listen and speak.
The seminar, which was held under the auspices of Al-Balasi and Taiba Consultant Hospitals, discussed the causes of sensorineural hearing loss, its stages, treatment methods, the effects of hearing loss and its repercussions on the individual and society, as well as the justifications for localizing electronic cochlear implants in Yemen, the benefits of this for patients and the health sector in general, in addition to introducing the cochlear device , its internal and external parts, its features, the characteristics of the beneficiary, and the appropriate age for implantation of the cochlear device.
