Sana’a – SABA:
A report published by The New York Times, citing what it described as informed sources, revealed that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared sensitive information regarding the war in Yemen in an encrypted group chat that included his wife and brother.
According to the report, “some of these individuals” said that the information Hegseth shared via a Signal chat included schedules for F/A-18 Hornet flights targeting Yemen—essentially the same attack plans he had shared in a separate Signal conversation earlier that day, which he mistakenly included the Atlantic magazine editor in.
The report noted that Mr. Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer, a former Fox News producer, is not a Department of Defense employee but had traveled abroad with him and faced criticism for accompanying her husband to sensitive meetings with foreign leaders.
Observers argue that the continuous scandals surrounding the U.S. administration’s handling of its aggression against Yemen highlight the utter absurdity, confusion, and recklessness plaguing its decision-making process, including its decision to wage war. That decision, undoubtedly backed by Israel, is being executed by an administration akin to that of Trump.
One observer commented: “This absurdity, confusion, and folly pale in comparison to the massacres committed by this administration in Yemen. These atrocities underscore the administration’s criminal nature—an inseparable counterpart to its folly and a mirror to the arrogance of an administration whose scandals lay bare the true face of America. This face is embodied in Trump’s worldview, his choice of cabinet members, and how decisions are made. The arrogance that drives him is, at its core, criminality on one hand and absurdity on the other. It is no surprise if we say all of this serves one purpose: the protection of Israel. But in the end, these scandals convey one undeniable truth—the reality of America, which some still choose to deny.”
The report also pointed to another controversial aspect of Secretary Hegseth’s personality—his overt hostility toward Islam. Just weeks ago, he appeared in a photo showing a new tattoo on his arm bearing the Arabic word "Kafir" (disbeliever), interpreted as a clear expression of his Zionist and anti-Islamic stance. That image and tattoo were widely seen as a hostile message to Muslims.
Hegseth sparked significant controversy when he revealed the tattoo on his right forearm with the word "Kafir" in Arabic, a term historically used to describe someone who rejects Islam.
This tattoo was first revealed during a visit to the Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam in Hawaii, where the Department of Defense’s official account published photos of Hegseth interacting with soldiers. The tattoo caught the attention of many social media users, prompting widespread criticism and accusations of harboring anti-Islamic sentiments.
