Gaza - Saba:
1,542 tents housing displaced persons in displacement camps and shelters in the Gaza Strip have been flooded by rainwater seen by the Palestinian atmosphere during the past two days, the Civil Defense Authority in Gaza said on Wednesday morning.
Rescue teams monitored hundreds of tents that were flooded by rainwater at a level exceeding 30 cm, the Civil Defense added in a press statement, as many of the displaced suffered from shivering due to the cold and the damage to their belongings and mattresses.
"Our teams in Gaza Governorate, 242 tents were flooded by rainwater in each of the camps set up on the grounds of Yarmouk Stadium and Gaza Municipality Park, 185 tents set up on the grounds of the Saraya Complex, and 70 tents set up on the grounds of the Shuja'iyya parking lot," the statement read.
In addition, the Civil Defense teams in Rafah Governorate monitored 170 tents that were flooded by water, set up on the sea street and around the Fash Farsh rest area.
In Khan Younis in the area of Al-Aqsa University and around Asdaa Prison and the Al-Amal neighborhood pond, more than 665 tents were damaged and flooded with water.
In the Central Governorate, the 210 tents that were flooded with water were concentrated in the area west of Deir al-Balah in Al-Basah and around the pond and the Wadi al-Salqa area.
"These tents were exposed to rainwater leakage at a level exceeding 30 cm, while hundreds of other tents were exposed to rainwater below this level, and the displaced people were unable to use them until the low pressure ends," it added.
The suffering of the displaced people in the Gaza Strip has worsened with the drop in temperatures and heavy rains in various areas of the Strip.
The rainfall caused a large number of tents in the displacement camps to flood yesterday and today, forcing them to face the bitter cold without protection or a safe place to resort to.
The displaced people in Mawasi Khan Younis and Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, as well as the central governorate, are living difficult times inside their tents, which were flooded by rainwater and blown away by winds.
