Gaza Public Works: 60% of families in strip homeless

Gaza - Saba:

A report issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in the Gaza Strip revealed Sunday that more than 60 percent of families in the Strip are homeless as a result of the genocidal war waged by the Zionist enemy for more than 15 months.

The ministry said in its report the extent of the damage resulting from the complete destruction of residential neighborhoods is several times what was damaged by the Zionist aggression in 2014, which lasted 51 days, noting that the extent of the destruction in this war is beyond the ability of any party to deal with it quickly and directly.

The amount of rubble resulting from the destruction of neighborhoods, cities and residential blocks was estimated at tens of millions of tons.

The ministry considered that removing the rubble is the most important stage in the reconstruction of Gaza, and is related to completing the demolition of damaged buildings that pose a danger to citizens, supporting damaged buildings that can be maintained and rehabilitated, and protecting neighboring buildings and streets while completing the demolition and removing the rubble.

The ministry's report, which came after an assessment and inspection of the effects of the aggression, confirmed that removing the rubble cannot be done using local equipment, most of which was damaged or destroyed by the Zionist bombing of government, municipal and civil facilities, which requires the introduction of dozens of heavy machinery that are suitable for the size of the work.

The Ministry of Public Works presented proposals to deal with the provision of temporary shelter, which requires significant funding, the first of which is to provide temporary housing through mobile units (caravans) placed near residential neighborhoods, while providing infrastructure services, such as water and sewage.

The second proposal is to provide financial amounts spent as rent allowance to equip families themselves with temporary shelter in their residential area.

The latest statistical report issued by the government media office in Gaza showed that 161,600 housing units were completely destroyed, 194,000 were partially destroyed, and 82,000 units became uninhabitable as a result of the ongoing Zionist aggression.

It also showed that the percentage of destruction in the sector reached 88 percent, and that the initial direct losses are estimated at 37 billion dollars.

The war of genocide waged by the Zionist enemy on the Gaza Strip continues for the 464th consecutive day, which has led to the martyrdom of 46,565 martyrs and 109,660 injuries with varying degrees of injuries, including serious and very serious, since October 7, according to the latest data published by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
