A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Japan on Monday afternoon, the US Geological Survey reported.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning of up to one meter in height after the quake struck off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture in the Kyushu region at around 21:19 (12:19 GMT).
