Sana'a - Saba:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong rejection and condemnation of attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of Yemen concerning the case of individuals detained in connection with the American-Israeli espionage cell.
Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras stated to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), following the press statement by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the memo from the UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen regarding the case, that Yemen firmly rejects and condemns all forms of external interference in its internal affairs, regardless of the source. He emphasized that all pressures and compromises imposed on Yemen concerning the detainees in the espionage case are categorically unacceptable.
He pointed out that the UN Secretary-General’s statement constitutes blatant interference in Yemen’s internal matters and should not come from an international figure heading an organization representing 193 member states, not just the United States or Security Council members. The Secretary-General must act responsibly, professionally, and impartially.
Yemen also denounced the Secretary-General's statement condemning the Yemeni authorities' exercise of their sovereign duties to maintain security and stability and apprehend those violating laws and regulations. The demand for the immediate and unconditional release of the detainees was deemed a violation of his mandate as Secretary-General and a breach of the trust granted to him by UN member states. The Secretary-General is expected to use his authority to prevent crises and promote international peace and security.
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the pressures exerted on Yemen, including in humanitarian matters, are punitive measures targeting the Yemeni people due to their honorable stance in defending the oppressed Palestinian people and confronting American-Israeli crimes.
He stressed the need for the UN, its programs, agencies, and international organizations operating in Yemen to comply with Yemeni laws and adhere to Cabinet Resolution No. 8 of 2024, which governs their work in the country. They must uphold their stated mandates and principles of humanitarian work—humanity, integrity, independence, and neutrality—while avoiding political agendas or aligning with the hostile policies of the United States and its allies against Yemen. He warned against any involvement in espionage activities serving Yemen’s adversaries.
The Deputy Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Government of Change and Reconstruction's commitment to its program, which emphasizes strengthening communication and building trust with the UN and international organizations, providing all necessary support for their humanitarian work, and encouraging greater cooperation, responsibility, and transparency.
He emphasized that Yemen would not allow any compromise on its sovereignty and national principles, asserting that national interests, particularly security and stability, take precedence over other considerations, including humanitarian aid. He highlighted the Yemeni people’s and official institutions' accumulated expertise in addressing any attempts to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty.
In conclusion, the Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated that the presence of the UN and various international organizations in Yemen is welcome, provided they remain committed to laws, mutual cooperation, and respect, and refrain from interfering in internal affairs.
