Hodeida - Saba:
The General Authority of Zakat Office in Al-Hodeida Governorate crowned its performance during the past year 2024 with a rich harvest in serving the poor and needy through humanitarian and economic empowerment projects, which had a great impact in alleviating their suffering.
The office contributed with many emergency humanitarian interventions to help thousands of needy and insolvent people from the governorate, and to consolidate the principle of social solidarity, in a way that reflected the level of success of legitimate zakat expenditures and the keenness to alleviate the suffering of the poor.
The success was embodied in improving the performance system of the office and its branches, at the administrative and financial levels, and upgrading the aspects of training and rehabilitation, awareness programs and workshops, and developing the capabilities and skills of cadres, which had an impact on the efficiency of collection and project implementation.
Harvest of Goodness:
The number of projects implemented during the past year amounted to 20 projects in various humanitarian and charitable fields, with a value of three billion, 98 million, and 932 thousand riyals, including empowerment projects that contribute to combating poverty and transforming the poor community into a productive one.
The hand of goodness and mercy was manifested, within the legitimate zakat expenditures, in implementing a matrix of decentralized projects and interventions within the framework of the vision and policy of the General Authority of Zakat, amounting to 580 million and 962 thousand riyals.
Among these projects is the project of the debtors, which is one of the images of giving and the sincere direction of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council and the Zakat Authority to relieve the distress of insolvent prisoners and release them, by paying their private rights to others, amounting to 208 million and 600 thousand riyals.
Takaful and assistance projects:
Embodying the principle of social solidarity in light of the multiplicity of soft war methods, and keenness to protect youth, and within the framework of the fourth mass wedding project, efforts were crowned with support for 660 grooms and brides, amounting to 209 million and 600 thousand riyals.
The General Authority of Zakat office also provided medical assistance to poor groups amounting to 175 million and 406 thousand riyals, as well as marriage assistance to many destitute young men whose circumstances prevented them from getting married, amounting to 197 million and 55 thousand riyals.
The emergency response project, amounting to 173 million and 491 thousand riyals, represented a rich picture of humanitarian giving, and included financial assistance for community initiatives, support for kitchens, ovens and charitable meals, implementation of the disabled project, support for scientific centers, institutional medical assistance, and gifts for the wounded and disabled.
Empowerment projects and images of giving:
The Authority and its office in Hodeida allocated part of the zakat resources to support agricultural, livestock and fish economic empowerment projects to rehabilitate poor families in income-generating fields through small projects to improve their living conditions and transform them into productive and active groups in the labor market.
Based on this vision, the efforts resulted in supporting the fish economic empowerment project with an amount of 266 million riyals, raising livestock with an amount of 40 million riyals, and purchasing and distributing 160 fishing boats, engines and fishing supplies to 480 families in the directorates of Al-Munira, Al-Salif and Al-Luhayyah.
To enhance responsibility towards the suffering of the poor, Zakat in kind projects were implemented amounting to 179 million and 146 thousand riyals, cash transfers and Zakat al-Fitr amounting to 683 million and 740 thousand riyals, food baskets amounting to 236 million and 642 thousand riyals, and sacrificial animals amounting to 2 million and 966 thousand riyals.
Emergency financial aid was also provided amounting to 383 million and 85 thousand riyals, support for the gas distribution project amounting to 356 million and 710 thousand riyals, and support for humanitarian institutions and religious activities amounting to 14 million riyals.
Regarding the damage caused by the floods that fell on Al Hudaydah Governorate, which caused significant material damage to citizens’ properties and homes, the Zakat Authority office implemented an emergency response project to help those affected at an amount of 66 million and 255 thousand riyals, targeting 1,675 families with food aid, 4,300 families with shelter aid, and 18 families of the deceased with cash aid.
Translation of the sincere orientation of the leadership:
The Director of the General Authority of Zakat Office in the governorate, Muhammad Hazza, explained that the projects implemented during the year 2024 succeeded in helping thousands of needy people, as a result of the directives of the Leader of the Revolution and the President of the Supreme Political Council to care for the poor in the Tihama Plain regions.
He stressed that the Zakat Authority contributes through agricultural, livestock and fish empowerment projects to support and finance poor families to help them provide sources of income that enable them directly and through promising economic projects to improve their living conditions.
He expressed pride in the success of charitable projects that touched the suffering of the poor, the sick and the needy, as well as the empowerment projects implemented in the areas of supporting fishermen, farmers, livestock and beekeeping, which benefited poor families and transformed them from a category receiving zakat to a category that takes the initiative to pay zakat.
Achieving the goals of the Quranic march:
The Director General of the Zakat Authority Office pointed out that the Zakat projects are launched from the Quranic march project to support the poor and help them to rely on themselves in the agricultural and industrial fields, as a practical embodiment of the project of the martyr President Saleh Al-Samad "A hand that protects and a hand that builds" and working with the directives of the leader of the revolution in this regard.
He stressed that the Zakat Office was keen during the past year to reach many of the poor, needy, debtors and insolvent and relieve their distress, in addition to implementing many other development and service projects, including the mass wedding that the Authority is keen to hold annually.
Hazza noted the success achieved in the indicators of Zakat collection during the past year, and the redistribution of in-kind Zakat to thousands of the poor and needy during the harvest seasons of the past years.
He pointed to the training courses and activities that were implemented for the cadres of the Zakat Office and its branches to embody the responsibility and honesty towards this duty, and to hold a series of workshops for Zakat trustees in various directorates of the governorate to serve the poor and needy in society.
