Moscow - Saba:
Scientists from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Research Institute of Systems Biology and Medicine, have discovered a way to improve COVID-19 vaccines by enhancing the body's immune response.
The researchers focused their study on the S protein receptors of five coronavirus strains, including the Wuhan-Hu-1, Alpha, Delta, Gamma, and Omicron strains. The results of the study showed that the S protein in the Omicron strain degrades differently than in other strains, affecting the immune response.
Anna Kudyryaeva, the project supervisor, explained that this discovery helps understand the mechanisms of interaction between the virus and the immune system and provides guidance for the development of a new generation of vaccines that enhance the effectiveness of the immune response and provide better protection against new coronavirus variants.
