Washington - Saba:
Authorities rescued a young man in Connecticut after he was imprisoned by his stepmother for 20 years when he set his room on fire to attract the attention of rescue crews.
According to the Associated Press, fire and rescue crews rushed to the home in Waterbury after receiving a report of a fire. Upon his rescue, the 32-year-old man said he deliberately set the fire to seek freedom, noting that he had been held captive since he was about 11 years old.
Investigations revealed that the young man had been subjected to severe abuse, including starvation, neglect, and lack of medical care over those years. His stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, 56, was arrested and charged with assault, kidnapping, and unlawful detention.
