Damascus – SABA:
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday that two new massacres occurred in the Latakia and Tartus provinces, claiming the lives of 24 civilians. This brings the total number of massacres to 56, with a death toll reaching 1,500 civilians since March 6, across the Syrian coast and mountainous regions.
Security and defense forces under extremist groups and their allied forces have been carrying out field executions, forced displacement, and house burnings.
The observatory documented that most of the 24 victims from the latest massacres were from the Alawite sect, with 14 killed in Tartus and 10 in Latakia.
The organization warned about the practice of burying victims in mass graves in the Syrian coastal region, highlighting that it has recorded the deaths of approximately 1,393 Alawite civilians.
It also expressed concern that these mass graves could later be exploited for propaganda purposes, potentially serving political and humanitarian narratives that accuse so-called "regime remnants" of war crimes. Such narratives, the observatory warned, could distort the truth about the massacres committed against unarmed Alawite civilians and undermine justice for the victims and their families.
The observatory urged the international community to launch an immediate investigation into these violations and deploy independent documentation teams, warning that impunity threatens societal stability in the post-regime phase.
