Bayt Al-Faqih Directorate in Hodeidah Governorate witnessed the launch of the marketing of five thousand local chickens as an alternative to imported chicken, as part of efforts to support local production and reduce dependence on imports.
The initiative was implemented by Bait Al-Faqih Cooperative Society in coordination with poultry breeders, within the framework of the strategy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to enhance food security and self-sufficiency.
During the inauguration, the director of the directorate, Hussein Sahl, stressed that this step represents a qualitative leap in achieving self-sufficiency in white meat, stressing the need to generalize the experience to encourage competition between producers and provide local chicken slaughtered by Islamic law at reasonable prices.
For his part, Engineer Hilal Al-Jashari, Poultry Officer and Value Chain Officer, explained that the initiative supports small poultry breeders through contract farming between producers, cooperative societies and traders, with a plan to gradually increase production until it reaches five thousand tons in the future, in addition to providing feed and raw materials to enhance the sustainability of the sector.
In turn, the Secretary-General of Bait Al-Faqih Association, Mujib Mujhas, stressed the association's readiness to provide the required quantities, praising the initiative that returns small breeders to production and promotes investment in the poultry sector as an important source of income for large segments of society. The inauguration was attended by a number of officials, representatives of cooperative societies, the private sector and farmers, amid assurances on expanding the experience to support the national economy and achieve food security.
