Brussels – SABA:
The European Commission announced on Thursday that it had postponed the implementation of tariffs in response to U.S. tariffs on European steel and aluminum imports until mid-April, instead of the beginning of the month, to allow more room for negotiations with the U.S. administration.
In a statement, the Commission affirmed that the EU remains open to constructive dialogue with the United States to reach a solution that avoids unnecessary harm to both economies.
The postponed tariffs would apply to U.S. goods, including gaming consoles, motorcycles, boats, and peanut butter.
Some of these additional tariffs are set to reach 50%, such as those imposed on Harley-Davidson motorcycles manufactured in the United States.
Additionally, further measures are being prepared for mid-April, targeting U.S. agricultural exports to the EU, including poultry, beef, seafood, nuts, eggs, dairy products, sugar, and vegetables.
