New York - (Saba):
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Sunday that more than a million children in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of life-saving aid for more than a month, noting that the continued blockade of aid into Gaza constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and has dire consequences for children.
UNICEF added, in a statement on the organization's official website, that the blockade on humanitarian aid has catastrophic consequences for one million children in the Gaza Strip, noting that the continued blockade of aid will exacerbate malnutrition and disease and increase child mortality in the Gaza Strip.
The organization confirmed that it has thousands of aid parcels waiting to enter the Gaza Strip, and that they must be allowed in immediately. Furthermore, complementary foods for infants in Gaza have run out, and only enough formula milk remains for 400 children for a month.
It added that children receiving treatment for malnutrition are at grave risk due to the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
She noted that the closure of 15% of malnutrition treatment centers in Gaza since March 18 due to evacuation orders or Israeli bombing threatens the lives of 350 children who rely on these centers.
