Washington – SABA:
A study conducted by scientists from Brazil and the United States has revealed that adopting a specific diet may protect us from the risk of developing severe intestinal inflammation.
According to the journal Cell Host & Microbe, the research showed that a diet rich in dietary fiber could be an effective preventive measure against severe intestinal infections. During the experiments, researchers found that the fiber found in vegetables, fruits, and grains stimulates protective mechanisms that reduce the risk of bacterial infections, including those that typically require antibiotic treatment.
The study results indicated that during the digestion of fiber, gut bacteria produce a special substance called acetate. This compound helps balance the activity of immune cells in the intestinal mucosa and prevents aggressive inflammatory responses. A deficiency in acetate leads to excessive immune activation, which may damage the intestinal mucosal tissues.
The scientists emphasized that regular consumption of fiber-rich foods not only improves digestion but also plays a crucial role in preventing serious intestinal diseases, including infections caused by Clostridioides difficile bacteria.
This discovery underscores the importance of healthy dietary habits and how the type of food consumed significantly influences overall health and the effectiveness of the body’s immune system.
