Ibb - Saba:
A meeting was held in Ibb Governorate, attended by the Secretary-General of the Local Council, Amin Al-Warafi, and the Chairman of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities, Engineer Hadi Qurai'a, to discuss the environmental risks resulting from the landfill and its negative impact on groundwater and agricultural lands.
The meeting addressed the challenges related to sewage disposal within the water basin and the leakage of waste leachate, which threatens the surrounding environment. Participants discussed urgent technical solutions to address the landfill, including the construction of an impermeable concrete basin to collect leachate, improving infrastructure, constructing fences to prevent waste spillage, and reopening rainwater drainage.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of recycling waste, generating energy from it, prohibiting the drilling of wells near the landfill, and supporting scientific research to develop environmental solutions. It emphasized the need to improve the efficiency of the wastewater treatment plant and educate farmers about the risks of using this water for irrigation.
Officials praised the Authority's efforts to combat illegal drilling and visited the Maytam Water Basin to assess the environmental situation and infrastructure there.
