Washington – Saba:
U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized China on Thursday over its withdrawal from a deal to purchase aircraft from Boeing, amid escalating tensions in the ongoing trade war between Washington and Beijing.
Trump wrote on his "Truth Social" platform: "Boeing should announce that China has defaulted on its payments and failed to take delivery of the beautiful planes it pledged to buy."
He added: "This is just a small example of what China has been doing to the United States for years."
Boeing CEO Calhoun Ortberg said in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday that China had stopped receiving aircraft due to tariffs, noting that some "737 MAX" planes originally bound for China have been returned to the United States."
In mid-April, Chinese authorities barred domestic airlines from purchasing Boeing aircraft, parts, and equipment, as part of the ongoing trade war with the U.S.
This move could significantly impact Boeing’s manufacturing and logistics operations, given that around 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft had already been prepared for Chinese fleets.
At the same time, China is considering offering support to airlines that lease Boeing aircraft to offset rising costs.
