Geneva - Saba:
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor condemned the US military's targeting of a migrant detention center in Yemen, considering the attack a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law that may amount to a war crime.
The Monitor called for the establishment of an independent international commission of inquiry to document the violations, identify those responsible, and hold them accountable.
It noted that the nature of the human losses and massive destruction reflects the United States' disregard for the principles of protecting civilians, highlighting the danger of impunity and the weakening of the international order.
The Monitor emphasized that migrants enjoy rights guaranteed under international law, and that targeting them constitutes a clear violation of international agreements. It called on the United States to halt its illegal aggression against Yemen, fully comply with international humanitarian law, and cease its military and political support for Israel.
