Islamabad - Saba:
Pakistani police reported that at least seven people were killed and 16 others injured in a bomb explosion outside a pro-government committee office in the country's northwest.
Local police chief Usman Wazir stated on Monday that the blast occurred in Wana, a major city in South Waziristan district, part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The police chief noted that the explosion targeted the office of the Peace Committee, which openly opposes the Pakistani Taliban and also helps resolve disputes among local residents.
The attack came a day after the military announced that its forces had killed 54 militants in a large-scale operation in neighboring North Waziristan, "following their attempt to infiltrate the country from Afghanistan."
No group immediately claimed responsibility for Monday's blast.
