Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza: Fuel to run out within hours, hundreds of patients at risk of death

Gaza – SABA:

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza announced on Monday evening that its main generator has broken down, with no spare parts available for repairs.

In a statement, the hospital warned that "fuel will run out within the coming hours," stressing that "the lives of hundreds of patients inside the hospital wards are at risk of death."

It further confirmed that "the shutdown of the hospital threatens to cut off healthcare services for half a million people in the central Gaza governorate."

The hospital called on the international community and relevant authorities to intervene immediately to save the facility.

Gaza’s healthcare system has been on the verge of total collapse since the start of the Israeli aggression last October, under a suffocating blockade that prevents the entry of medical equipment, fuel, and medicines, along with persistent restrictions on transferring critical cases for treatment outside the strip.

According to data from the Palestinian Health Ministry, over 70% of healthcare facilities have gone out of service due to direct targeting or depletion of resources. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of wounded—mostly children, women, cancer patients, and those with chronic illnesses—urgently need treatment outside Gaza.

The Israeli occupation authorities impose strict restrictions on patient travel through the Rafah or Kerem Shalom crossings, often delaying or arbitrarily denying permits, leading to worsening medical conditions or deaths.
