Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said on Thursday that Moscow and Washington have already begun preparations for a bilateral meeting between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump within the next few days.
Ushakov told reporters that the proposal came from the US side, and that an initial agreement has been reached to hold the summit as soon as possible.
He continued: "We are now beginning, in cooperation with our American colleagues, to work on the details of the summit."
He indicated that next week is a likely date for the meeting, without specifying a specific day, noting that both sides are optimistic about the possibility of a successful meeting.
Ushakov declined to comment on the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressing that the priority now is to prepare for a bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump.
The Russian presidential aide stated that President Trump, following the report submitted by his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, contacted a number of European partners to discuss the issue, while Moscow began informing its allies of the content of the three-hour Kremlin meeting between Putin and Witkoff on Wednesday.
