Brussels – SABA:
European Commission Executive Vice President Teresa Ribera stated on Thursday that the killing, displacement, and starvation occurring in the Gaza Strip bear a strong resemblance to genocide — marking the first such comment from a high-ranking EU Commission official.
“If it’s not genocide, it looks very much like what defines it,” Ribera told reporters.
“What we are witnessing is the deliberate targeting and killing of an actual population, condemning them to death by starvation,” she added.
Ribera, who holds the second-highest position in the European Commission after President Ursula von der Leyen, is the first EU commissioner to publicly break with the Commission’s stance on the Israeli aggression in Gaza and to level such a serious accusation.
