Tottenham’s James Maddison Suffers ACL Injury, Set for Surgery

London – SABA:

Tottenham Hotspur announced on Thursday that midfielder James Maddison will undergo surgery after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

The Premier League club did not specify a timeline for his return, but ACL injuries typically sideline players for a minimum of six months before they can resume training.

Maddison sustained the injury during a pre-season friendly last Sunday against fellow Premier League side Newcastle United. He was stretchered off the pitch following the incident.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, commenting after the match, noted that it was the same knee Maddison had previously injured, which had sidelined him at the end of last season.

In an official statement, the club said: “We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee.”

The 28-year-old playmaker had an impressive season last year, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions, helping Tottenham secure the Europa League title and end their 17-year trophy drought.

Spurs will begin their season with the UEFA Super Cup against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in Udine, Italy, on August 13, followed by their Premier League opener at home against newly-promoted Burnley three days later.
