SANA'A May 18. 2023 (Saba) - Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtour on Thursday received the WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe Corinne Madeleine and her accompanying delegation.
The meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Obaid bin Dabi’ discussed the course of the programme's humanitarian operations in Yemen and ways to strengthen and develop its role during the coming period, as well as its contribution to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression and blockade.
The meeting addressed the importance of the programme's continuing allocation to the education sector to reduce dropout from basic education.
The Prime Minister welcomed the Regional Officer on her visit to Yemen. Reiterates the Government's appreciation of the programme for its food allocation to the poorest and neediest families in society.
Notwithstanding the situation of the armistice, which had entered its second year, humanitarian needs continued to grow owing to the targeting of aggression against the various components of the daily and productive life of the Yemeni people. Called upon WFP to strengthen and expand its humanitarian operations in Yemen in the coming period.
In turn, Madeleine noted that, despite the pressure faced by the Programme as a result of new conflicts in the region and elsewhere, the Programme is determined to maintain its humanitarian support to Yemen.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Protocol Department headed by Prime Minister Ismail Al-Muhtwari, Assistant Director of the Prime Minister's Office for Humanitarian Affairs Mohammed Al-Amiri, Resident Representative of the Food Programme of Yemen Richard Ragan, Special Assistant to the Regional Director Yasmine Kara and Special Assistant to the Programme's Resident Representative in Yemen, Craig Browney.
