GAZA October 26. 2023 (Saba) - The head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) praised the position of Russia and China in the Security Council and their thwarting of the US resolution draft biased towards the Zionist entity.
In a press statement carried by the Palestinian Information Center, Haniyeh expressed his appreciation to all countries inside and outside the Security Council that demanded an end to the aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Haniyeh called on the international community to oblige the Zionist entity to respect human rights rules and to apply international law and international humanitarian law against the people of the Gaza Strip in particular and Palestine in general.
The UN Security Council failed to adopt a US draft resolution that does not call for stopping military operations in Gaza.
Russia and China used their veto power in the UN Security Council against the US draft resolution on Gaza.
The Russian delegate to the Security Council said the United States does not want Security Council resolutions to influence the Zionist process.
It warned that violations of international humanitarian law threaten to expand the conflict in the Middle East and perhaps beyond.
He stressed that narrow interests prevented avoiding a catastrophic crisis in Gaza, stressing that the US draft resolution amounts to a license from the Council to continue the Zionist attack on Gaza.
Haniyeh stressed that the US draft resolution cannot be allowed to pass because it will completely lose the Council’s credibility.
He said "We regret that the Council was unable to seize this opportunity to address the crisis in the Middle East."
In turn, the Chinese delegate to the Security Council said the US draft resolution does not mention that Palestine has been occupied for a long time.
It added We must take into account the security concerns of both sides, and not just the "Israeli" occupation.
the Chinese delegate stressed that any ambiguous decision regarding war and peace is irresponsible and dangerous and paves the way for large-scale military action.
