WASHINGTON April 27. 2024 (Saba) - US authorities announced that three people were injured in dozens of storms that hit on Friday in the central United States and caused significant material damage.
U.S. weather forecasts recorded more than 70 Storms, mostly around Omaha, Nebraska, and near Iowa.
Scenes posted on social media by storm chasers showed huge black tornadoes crossing the sky, sweeping through soil, dust and various materials.
The tornadoes destroyed dozens of buildings, uprooted power lines and trains derailed. In Elkhorn, an Omaha suburb, images showed homes demolished or uprooted and trees bare of leaves.
To the south near Lincoln, an industrial warehouse was hit by a whirlwind, and about 70 people who were inside the building when it collapsed were evacuated, but three of them were injured but not seriously.
On Friday, the weather service issued several warnings in a number of central states of the United States, and expects the phenomenon to continue on Saturday in this vast agricultural field area all the way to Texas.
Tornadoes, a climate phenomenon that is difficult to predict, are common in the United States, particularly in the center and south of the country.
