USAID: nearly 900,000 forced to displace from Rafah

USAID: nearly 900,000 forced to displace from Rafah
[Fri, 24 May 2024 10:02:57 +0300]

GAZA May 24. 2024 (Saba) - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has revealed that approximately 900,000 people have been forcibly displaced from the city of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli military operation.

In a concise statement released on Friday, the agency explained that the displaced have fled to areas hosting large numbers, suffering from shortages in services.

Occupation forces began a military operation in Rafah city in the south of the Strip on the sixth of this month, directing citizens and displaced people to eastern areas of the city (al-Shoka, al-Salam, al-Jneina, and Tabbet Zaraa) to head to Khan Yunis city in the south of the Strip.

The military operation then expanded to other areas of the city, with continued intense artillery, rocket, and naval bombardment.

On the fifth of May, the occupation forces completely closed Kerem Shalom crossing southeastern Rafah city, preventing the entry of humanitarian and medical aid.

On the seventh of the same month, the occupation forces occupied the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing, halting the flow of aid to the Strip, and both crossings remain closed until today.

Since the start of the aggression on Gaza, Rafah city has witnessed a large displacement movement of citizens from various cities in the Strip, with the number of residents reaching approximately 1.5 million. With the start of the military operation in Rafah, 600,000 of them were forced to displace once again to other areas.
