CAPITALS June 24. 2024 (Saba) - The leaked audio reveals the secret plan of the so-called extremist right-wing Zionist Finance Minister, Smotrich, aimed at strengthening Zionist control over the occupied West Bank and thwarting any attempt for it to become part of a Palestinian state. It once again exposes the fascistic and racist face of the Zionist enemy government, which continues its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people, their land, and their holy sites.
In the context of the Zionist enemy's continued policy of gradual annexation of Palestinian territories with the aim of fully seizing and de-Palestinianizing them, extremist Smotrich explicitly announced, in an audio recording published by the American newspaper "New York Times," the engagement of the enemy government in a described "hidden and secret" effort to control the occupied West Bank.
Smotrich stated in the leaked recording during a speech: "The Benjamin Netanyahu government is engaged in a secret plan to change the way the West Bank is governed, to enhance Israel's control over it irreversibly, without formally annexing it."
He emphasized in his speech that the main goal of this plan is to prevent the occupied West Bank from becoming part of a Palestinian state. He added, "I tell you, it is extremely dramatic, such changes resemble changing the DNA of the system."
The leaked audio reveals a clear plan to gradually wrest control of the West Bank from the hands of the occupation army and hand it over to civilian employees working under its command in the Ministry of War, with some authorities already transferred to civilians.
The Palestinian National and Islamic Forces Monitoring Committee condemned the dangerous Zionist enemy plan in the West Bank, calling for a serious and genuine strategic dialogue among the living forces of the Palestinian people to confront the enemy in this critical phase facing the Palestinian issue, and to work on protecting the West Bank from Judaization.
The Committee emphasized in its statement that "targeting the West Bank and attempts to Judaize it are worthy of the national unity's response to this step."
It stressed the "necessity for the Palestinian people to prepare for a different phase of struggle and resistance, requiring achieving national unity and consensus on a comprehensive national strategy to manage the conflict with the Zionist enemy in all occupied Palestinian territories, as well as consensus on a national action program to manage Palestinian public affairs."
It also expressed dismay at the position of the Authority, noting that instead of taking real steps to confront these challenges in the West Bank, it sadly witnesses silence, persisting in the same failed path for years, believing that relying on American funding to produce legitimacy is still possible, and believing in American promises to prop up the Authority; promises that will evaporate as Oslo and its obsolete stages evaporated.
Amidst this Zionist direction and the continuation of aggression on Gaza, political analysts affirmed that the plan aims to increase control over the West Bank, solidify settlement and security control over it, and exercise further repression against anything Palestinian.
The political writer and analyst Suleiman Basharat stated to "Quds Press" that Smotrich's plan is not new and has actually been existing and proposed for over two years, when he declared his plan to resolve the conflict in the West Bank as an alternative to the conflict management plan, even before assuming a ministerial position in this government, setting the terms for this proposal, which aligns and is aligned with the annexation plan following the Deal of the Century, which is also a rejection of Smotrich's plan.
Basharat pointed out that the main features of the plan are concretely implemented in the infrastructure that the enemy began to apply in the West Bank, through connecting settlements with a bypass road network that fully links them geographically and demographically, and transforming Palestinian presence into residences.
In turn, the political writer and lecturer at the Faculty of Media at An-Najah University, Fareed Abu Zaher, said: "The value of these ideas and plans cannot be underestimated, and if given the opportunity, they will be applied worse than what has been announced."
Abu Zaher believes that the existence of such plans and their announcement at this time specifically stems from the severity of the defeat suffered by the Zionists as a result of the events of October 7 and the continuation of the war without achieving results. They are floundering and want to do anything to heal their wounds and save face, especially as they are in a state of defeat in front of the Zionist community.
He added, "Smotrich and Ben-Gvir have a view titled 'if we lose in Gaza, we have the West Bank, which is actually more important to them than Gaza for several reasons, first of all because it represents a strategic and geographical depth, in addition to the religious significance of the presence of sacred areas and it is an important border to protect the occupation entity from any attack from any of the Arab countries, a depth that cannot be dispensed with."
Abu Zaher continued: "In conclusion, these plans cannot find a way to be implemented unless the Zionists manage to restore their position, which has deteriorated internationally, and this talk is dubious, especially after the Gaza war, as there is international opposition that we will see over time, especially after the changes that occurred following the Gaza war and the accompanying international reactions."
