ALGERIA August 22. 2024 (Saba) - Algeria sent its first shipment of fuel to Lebanon on Thursday to operate power plants suffering from a severe fuel shortage.
“The Algerian tanker Ain Akker has sailed to Lebanon carrying a first shipment of 30,000 tons of fuel oil to restart power plants in the country,” the government said in a statement, according to the Algerian Press Agency.
“Other shipments will follow,” the statement said, but the total amount of fuel to be sent has not yet been announced.
On Sunday, Algeria decided in a gesture of solidarity to provide the fuel needed to operate power plants in Lebanon, which were completely shut down last week due to fuel shortages.
