MEXICO August 24. 2024 (Saba) - Outgoing Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has accused the United States of practicing a "policy of intervention" across the entire American continent.
In a press conference issued on Friday, Obrador stated, "For many years, the United States has engaged in interventionist policies throughout the continent."
He criticized the U.S. for influencing the political landscape of various countries, including appointing and removing presidents at will, and establishing new entities aligned with its interests.
He cited Mexico's own historical experiences with U.S. intervention, including the loss of territory.
Obrador's remarks followed criticism from U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, who expressed concerns that Mexico's proposed direct elections for judges could threaten democratic processes and potentially enable drug gangs to manipulate judicial outcomes.
