Amran governor Dr. Faisal Jaman, alongside Secretary-General of the Local Council Saleh Al-Makhlos, inaugurated several solar-powered water projects on Wednesday in Kharif and Raydah districts. The projects, funded by CARE, represent an investment of $353,000.
The inauguration included the rehabilitation of local water wells, with a focus on enhancing water access in underserved areas. Notable projects unveiled include the rehabilitation of the local institution's well in Raydah, water supply initiatives in Al-Barar, and emergency facilities at Raydah Hospital. The team also assessed ongoing work on Beit Harmal water project, which aims to operate on solar energy.
During the event, Dr. Jumaan and al-Makhlos highlighted the significance of solar energy in water pumping, emphasizing its role in providing clean water at lower costs, particularly in marginalized communities. They expressed their commitment to expanding such initiatives in the region.
They praised CARE's developmental efforts in collaboration with local authorities to implement various service projects across the governorate. The local leadership reaffirmed their readiness to address any challenges faced during the execution of sustainable projects that benefit the community.
Abdulkarim Dana, director of CARE's office in the province, detailed the specifications of the new projects. Beit al-Jarba water project features an 18.5-kilowatt pump and 33,600 watts of solar panels, with a total cost of $47,000. Athar water project includes a 30-kilowatt pump and 57,600 watts of solar capacity, with maintenance and infrastructure improvements totaling approximately $16,589.
In Raydah, Saif Well project incorporates a solar system with a capacity of 115,240 watts, alongside significant maintenance work and new piping at a cost of $115,000. Other projects include Saif Pond, which features a solar system and an extensive water distribution network, and al-Barar Water Project, which includes the construction of a control room and additional solar capacity, costing $89,000.
These initiatives mark a significant step toward enhancing water access and sustainability in Amran's districts .
