Jakarta - Saba:
Ten people were killed and a number of homes burned, due to the eruption of a volcano in eastern Indonesia last night.
"The death toll from the eruption of the Liutobi Laki-Laki volcano has reached ten," said Abdul Mahari, spokesman for the Disaster Management Agency, during a press conference today, according to Agence France-Presse.
The volcano is located on the island of Flores, which is visited by tourists, and spewed ash and lava towards neighboring villages, whose residents were forced to evacuate. Fires broke out in some wooden houses, while flying rocks from the volcano left craters.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the meeting of continental plates causes great seismic and volcanic activity. Indonesia includes about 130 active volcanoes.
