Japanese stocks opened lower in morning trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Thursday.
According to Japanese media, the benchmark 225-share Nikkei index fell 0.52 percent to 37,935.94 points.
The broader Topix index fell 0.30 percent to 2,657.31 points.
