Cairo - Saba:
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty confirmed on Monday his country's rejection of the Zionist military presence on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia axis on the border with the southern Gaza Strip, which it occupied last May.
This came during a meeting between the minister and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of her participation in the "Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza", hosted by the Egyptian capital.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Abdel Aty confirmed during the meeting "Egypt's rejection of the Zionist military presence on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia axis, and obstructing the flow of humanitarian aid."
He stressed "the importance of the participants in the conference sending a decisive political message of the need for an immediate ceasefire, and to stop the daily Zionist violations that contradict the principles of international law and international humanitarian law."
Abdel Aty also highlighted Cairo's "ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire" in Gaza, reiterating Egypt's commitment to continue its permanent cooperation with the United Nations for humanitarian access to the Strip.
Abdel Aty expressed Egypt's support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its rejection of the recent Zionist decisions aimed at stopping its activities in the Palestinian territories.
In the same context, Abdel Aty called on the UN organization to continue its support for the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, and not to accept any proposals aimed at replacing the agency.
