Berlin - Saba:
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Interior Minister Nancy Faeser visited the Christmas market in Magdeburg, which was hit by a vehicular attack that killed four people and injured more than 200 others.
In a post on Platform X on Saturday, Scholz said: "Our whole country mourns Magdeburg. It's terrible the number of dead and injured here in the exhilarating Christmas market with incredible brutality."
"I wish all the victims and their families strength and speedy recovery of body and soul."
Earlier, the German chancellor said on the X platform: "All support to the victims and their families. We stand with you and the people of Magdeburg. My thanks go to the dedicated rescue workers in these difficult hours."
A car ran over a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg on Friday evening. The prime minister of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff, had earlier announced the deaths of two people, including a small child.
The suspect is a 50-year-old Saudi doctor named Talib who lives in the Bernburg region, where he works at a clinic. He has lived in Germany since 2006 and has permanent residency.
