Mayotte - Saba:
Angry residents in one of the neighborhoods affected by Hurricane "Chedo" on Mayotte welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron, who visited the neighborhood on Friday, with shouts of denunciation, about a week after the hurricane hit the archipelago located in the Indian Ocean.

Mayotte residents expressed their anger during Macron's visit on Friday, complaining that food and water had not reached them, about a week after the disaster.

So far, officials in France's poorest overseas territory have only confirmed the deaths of 31 people after Hurricane "Chedo" passed, while some said they feared that thousands may have died.

Rescue workers have yet to reach some of the worst-hit neighbourhoods in Mayotte, a hillside shanty town made up of ramshackle shacks housing undocumented migrants. As the French president toured the Tsingoni neighbourhood, residents sweating in 31-degree heat complained about the lack of water. “Seven days and you still can’t provide water to people!” one man shouted at Macron. Macron, who extended his visit to Mayotte to spend more time assessing the damage from the worst cyclone to hit the island in 90 years, responded by saying that water would be distributed to municipal buildings. “I understand your impatience,” he added. “You can trust me.”
