Brazilian authorities announced today, Monday, that a private plane crashed in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, killing nine people.

Local media reported that the accident occurred minutes after the plane took off from Canela Airport in the aforementioned state, yesterday, Sunday.

The state governor, Eduardo Leite, arrived at the scene of the disaster to follow up on the relief operation.. explaining that "there are no survivors among those on board the plane, apparently, and that work is underway to protect local residents.

The plane crashed on buildings in the city, and video clips from the scene showed a fire breaking out.
