MOSCOW - Saba:
Two people are missing and 14 others were rescued on Tuesday after a Russian cargo ship sank in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry's Operations and Crisis Center.

The center said in a statement: The cargo ship Ursa Major, owned by the Russian company SK-Yug, sank after an explosion in the engine room. All 16 crew members are Russian citizens.

The rescued crew members were taken to the coastal city of Carthage in Spain, the center said.

The Russian-flagged ship left St. Petersburg 12 days ago and was due to arrive at the port of Vladivostok in Russia on Sunday, according to data from maritime analytics provider MarineTraffic.

The service received the latest data from the ship about 20 hours ago.
