Ankara - Saba:
At least 13 people were killed and four others were injured on Tuesday in an explosion at an ammunition factory in Karaisi district of Balıkesir province in northwestern Turkey.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali YerliKaya was quoted by the semi-official Anadolu news agency as saying: "Emergency response teams moved quickly to manage the situation and provide medical assistance to the injured."
The factory, which began operating in 2014, was reportedly producing ammunition for light weapons.
Balıkesir Mayor Ahmet Akin told CNN Türk: "Everyone was safely evacuated after the explosion, and there is no evidence of sabotage."
Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç confirmed in a post on his account on the social networking site "X" that the authorities have opened a full investigation to find out the cause of the explosion.
