International Human Rights Organizations Sound Alarm Over Gaza's Dire Humanitarian Crisis

Capitals - SABA:

International human rights organizations have once again raised alarms over the catastrophic situation in Gaza, describing it as unprecedented amidst an ongoing genocide by the Israeli military. These groups emphasize clear signs of ethnic cleansing through forced displacement, siege, and relentless bombing.

UNRWA’s Emergency Operations Director, Louise Wotridge, stated on Friday that over two million people in Gaza remain trapped in appalling conditions, deprived of basic necessities. “The population cannot escape, and every possible route seems to lead to death,” she added. Wotridge highlighted the continued denial of humanitarian access, particularly to Rafah, a vital hub for humanitarian operations, which UNRWA was forced to abandon in May.

The situation in northern Gaza remains critical, with hospitals and shelters repeatedly targeted. The UN and its agencies face systematic blockades in their efforts to deliver aid and support to the besieged north.

In a recent report, Human Rights Watch accused the Israeli authorities of intentionally creating living conditions in Gaza designed to destroy part of the civilian population. This includes deliberate denial of sufficient access to water, leading to numerous deaths. The report deemed these actions as crimes against humanity, specifically genocide. HRW called on governments and international organizations to take all necessary measures to halt the genocide in Gaza, including ending military aid to Israel, reviewing bilateral agreements, and supporting international accountability efforts such as the International Criminal Court.

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) echoed these findings, reporting undeniable signs of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, encompassing mass killings, severe physical and psychological trauma, forced displacement, and inhumane living conditions. A recent MSF report, titled Gaza: Living in a Death Trap, describes the brutal Israeli military operations in northern Gaza as a stark example of war atrocities.

Amnesty International also recently concluded that Israel's actions in Gaza amount to genocide.

The International Red Cross criticized Israel’s forced displacement of hundreds of thousands to southern Gaza, which lacks the infrastructure to support such massive numbers of displaced individuals. This, they argued, constitutes a blatant violation of international laws ensuring adequate provisions for displaced populations.

A UN Special Committee investigation into Israeli practices concluded that Israeli actions in Gaza are consistent with genocide. The committee highlighted the use of starvation as a weapon of war, pointing to a deliberate blockade, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and targeted attacks on civilians and aid workers. Despite international resolutions and binding rulings from the International Court of Justice, Israel continues to cause death, starvation, and severe injuries deliberately.
