Seoul - Saba:
South Korea's Ministry of Transportation announced on Tuesday that 174 of the 179 people who died in the passenger plane crash at a southwestern airport on Sunday have been tentatively identified.
Of the 32 victims who could not be identified through fingerprints, 17 were identified through the first DNA test, while 10 others were identified in the second DNA test, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement to the families of the victims.
The identity of the remaining five victims could not be confirmed due to DNA discrepancies.
The Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 passenger plane crashed while landing at Muwon International Airport, about 290 kilometers southwest of Seoul.
Due to a malfunction in the landing gear system, the plane landed without wheels, veered off the runway and crashed into the outer wall of the runway, with the fuselage splitting in half and catching fire.
