5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ethiopia at 00:52 GMT on Saturday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences.
According to Ethiopian media, it was not immediately possible to know whether the earthquake resulted in human or material damage, and the epicenter of the earthquake was initially determined to be ten kilometers deep at 9.42 degrees north latitude and 40.13 degrees east longitude.
Yesterday, Friday, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation said in a statement: There are signs of a volcanic eruption in the Afar region, as a video showed smoke and dust rising from the crater of a volcano on Mount Dofan, which is located in one of the areas affected by earthquake activity in Ethiopia recently.
Ethiopia has witnessed repeated earthquakes during the past two weeks, exceeding 120 earthquakes, with 2024 achieving a record number of earthquakes compared to recent years.
