The National Data Authority of China announced today, Saturday, that the volume of data market transactions in China reached 22.26 billion dollars in 2024, recording a 30 percent increase year-on-year.
Chinese media quoted the head of the authority, "Liu Liehong", as saying: China was able to accelerate the construction of the data infrastructure in 2024.. Noting that by the end of the third quarter of last year, the total number of data center racks in use exceeded 2.11 million, representing an increase of more than 100 percent year-on-year.
He added: The authority continues to vigorously implement the big data project, which is called "Eastern Data and Western Computing", a project that aims to accelerate the construction of an integrated national computing network.
The National Data Administration of China expects new computing power in major computing centers to account for more than 60 percent of China’s total computing by the end of 2025, with green electricity use exceeding 80 percent of the total energy consumption of these centers. The big data project began in 2022 and is a key part of the digital infrastructure strategy that aims to boost China’s data storage and processing capacity in the interior, while also aligning with advanced computing technology in the economically advanced eastern regions.
