Brussels - Saba:

The European Union announced today, Thursday, the allocation of a new humanitarian aid package of 120 million euros to support the Gaza Strip, hours after the announcement of the ceasefire.

"The ceasefire and the release of the detainees (the Zionist prisoners) represents a glimmer of hope that is intense in the region, but the humanitarian situation in Gaza is still tragic."

The European Commissioner in charge of managing crises wrote Hadja Lahbib on the 'X' platform: She discussed with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah the huge needs in Gaza and the West Bank and ways to meet them '. noting that she will soon go to the Palestinian territories.

With this new package, the total humanitarian aid provided by the European Union to Gaza since 2023 has risen to more than 450 million euros, in addition to the human air bridge that provided more than 3,800 tons of aid.

The European Union confirmed that it will continue to work with partners on the ground to ensure that aid reaches those in need in the Gaza Strip as quickly as possible.

He added that Europe will continue to provide support through a €120 million aid package in 2025, along with hundreds of tons of in-kind aid, to ensure continued support for the Palestinians.

The new package includes food aid aimed at addressing severe food insecurity and malnutrition, in addition to supporting healthcare to ensure that medical facilities continue to operate and provide the necessary supplies. The aid also includes improving water and sanitation services to ensure that residents have access to clean water and health services, in addition to providing safe shelter for displaced people who lost their homes as a result of the recent escalation.

The European Union confirmed that it will work closely with UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to ensure that aid is delivered quickly and efficiently to affected areas, in light of the harsh humanitarian conditions experienced by Palestinians in Gaza.
