Seoul - Saba:
The ousted South Korean President "Yon Suk-yeol" refused to appear for questioning regarding his attempt to impose martial law, today, Friday, which is the third day of his detention.
The South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, this morning, Friday, that the Corruption Investigation Bureau for High-Level Officials in South Korea has ordered "Yon Suk-yeol" to appear for questioning after he refused to appear yesterday, for health reasons.
The agency quoted Suk Dong-hyun, the ousted president's lawyer and longtime friend, as saying, "The president will not appear before the bureau today. He made his basic position fully clear during the bureau's questioning on the first day and sees no reason or need to respond to the questioning that relies on questions and answers."
Yoon has been held in a detention center since Wednesday night, after investigators arrested him at his residence and brought him to the Senior Corruption Investigation Bureau for more than 10 hours of questioning.
Yoon filed a request with the Seoul Central District Court to review the legality of his detention, but the court rejected the appeal and kept him in custody. The bureau is expected to apply for a formal arrest warrant against Yoon before a 48-hour deadline expires on Friday night.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested at his presidential residence, becoming the first sitting president to be detained, after he briefly imposed martial law.
TV footage showed vehicles carrying Yoon moving from his residence in central Seoul to be questioned at the Senior Corruption Investigation Bureau in Gwacheon, south of Seoul, before being detained at the Seoul Detention Center in Uwang, just five kilometers away.
The office will have to decide within 48 hours whether to request a separate arrest warrant to detain Yoon for 20 days for questioning or release him. Yoon became the first sitting president in modern South Korean history to be detained during his term.
