EU agrees to extend sanctions against Russia

Brussels - Saba:
The European Union agreed, on Monday, to extend its sanctions against Russia, stressing its commitment to depriving Moscow of the revenues that finance its war in Ukraine.

According to Agence France-Presse, the European Union's foreign affairs official, Kaya Kallas, posted on the "X" platform, "The EU foreign ministers have just agreed to extend the sanctions imposed on Russia again."

Kallas explained: "This will continue to deprive Moscow of the revenues it uses to finance its war."

The EU's executive arm indicated that it will provide several guarantees related to energy security in the union.

This came after weeks of obstruction by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who initially called for consultations with the administration of US President Donald Trump before making a decision to renew.

In a meeting of EU ambassadors, the Commission presented a statement announcing that it is "ready to continue discussions with Ukraine on supplies to Europe via the gas pipeline system in Ukraine."
